The Hermesys ChimeraX™ 1.5kV DC Single Core Power Cable is an aluminum wire armoured (AWA) power cable. It is built for DC transmission in solar farms and direct-buried outdoor installations. Its flame-retardant construction and mechanical armour also protect the conductor in demanding, utility-scale deployments.
Key Features and Benefits
- Compact stranded aluminum conductor (300 mm², circular compact-strand construction) delivers high current-carrying capacity, while staying lighter than an equivalent copper conductor
- XLPE insulation supports continuous operation up to +90°C. This gives the cable a wide thermal margin for high-ambient solar farm and outdoor installations
- Aluminum wire armour also protects against impact and crushing on direct-buried and exposed outdoor runs, without the added weight of steel armour
- PVC inner and outer sheaths add extra insulation and abrasion protection around the conductor and armour. This construction suits direct-buried and outdoor use
- Rated for 1.5 kV DC continuous operation, with a maximum permitted voltage of 1.8 kV DC. This gives headroom for solar farm and DC transmission voltage variations
- It also withstands short-circuit fault conditions up to +250°C for 5 seconds, protecting the cable during transient overcurrent events
- Storage and installation temperatures go down to -20°C and -10°C. Combined with a -20°C to +90°C operating range, the cable suits both cold-climate handling and sustained high-temperature exposure
- Wide bend-radius tolerance (static >10D, dynamic >20D of the cable’s outer diameter) eases routing through cable trays and trenches. It also simplifies conduit bends during installation
